Service Pack 1 for SQL Server 2016

In Novemeber Microsoft released Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Microsfot SQL Server 2016. It is very good a step forward for all companies in my opinion.

The main reason is that Microsoft decided to open up a few features that were previously available only in the Enterprise Edition.

It means that several Enterprise features are now available in Standard, Web, Express and LocalDB.

For example:

- ColumnStore Index

- Partitioning

- Compression

- In Memory OLTP

- Polybase

- Always Encrypted

- Change Data Capture

- Create or Alter

Here is the complete list of new features available in SP1!

IMHO, this change forces a lot of companies to upgrade their old version of SQL Servers to SQL Server 2016.
